- 2 - temporarily. I shall be much obliged if you can enlighten me re this. We have received the new cam wheel, bolts, etc. to-day. We have fitted slipper wheel up, and at a radius of 10", we get the wheel slipping with a load of 16 lbs. This appears to me to be on the heavy side, but I am informed that it is not allowed to slack back the screws more than a quarter of a turn. I shall be very much obliged if you will give me the correct load for slipping, with what leverage is used. Also, whether the Bakerlite washers are of the correct thickness. These are .033" and .037" respectively. We have fitted the cam wheel, and run the engine with the front cover on temporarily. The gear is rather noisy. It sings, and is uneven, but as there is already slack in the dynamo pinion and intermediate wheel, I prefer to let the wheel bed itself in on the road, rather than attempt to grind it in here. We hope to continue our running mid-day to-morrow (Friday). We cannot understand why the parcel containing the cam wheel and bolts, should only have arrived in Paris on Wednesday as it was supposed to leave Derby on the 15th inst. We had got anxious about this delay, and telegraphed to MM. Hernu, Péron & Co., in Paris, to know the reason for this delay, and they informed us that the parcel has only just arrived. This means it took 4 1/2 days in transit from Derby to Paris, which seems to us a long while for parcel post. Maybe, Mr. Pope could inform you whether this is reasonable, or not. G.W.Hancock. | ||
