B. FROM T.A. COPY ORIGINAL C. to:- WOR.{Arthur Wormald - General Works Manager} HS.{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} & HBY. DAL/W25.2.33 X.62 PEREGRINE PROPELLER SHAFT. With further reference to DAL/W11233., sending some schemes for enclosing the propeller shaft sliding joint in the gearbox, we send herewith N. schs. 3695/98. giving some modifications to the original schemes to improve the construction as regards the gearbox, and some additional suggestions for oil retaining, lubrication of the splines, and increased dia. of splines. Included in both cases the striking rod bearing bracket is now increased in the end casting so that the gearbox can be assembled before this end casting is put on. In those cases where the propeller shaft plain bearing enters the end of the Srd. motion shaft, since we believe there is difficulty in hardening the latter, it is suggested that a thin Brass bush should be used. The plain bearing at the other end could be two hardened steel surfaces. We prefer N. sch. 3695. Because of the increased dia. of serrations obtained, which can be easily lubricated. T.A. | ||
