| x206 To Hs{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair}/Grylls. From Hs{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair}/Ratcliffe. Report on Bentley Front Brakes. All work carried out at Lillie Hall Depot. Chassis concerned B.51.AE. (Mr. Stewart.) B.69.AE. (Mr. Cockshoot.) 14.2.34. B.51.A.E. - Front brake drums soaked with water hose for 5 mins. duration. Brakes tested and found to jagger badly during the last few inches of the car coming to rest; intensity increasing with pressure. Front hubs dismantled and swivel portion on both wrapping shoes filed down taper to instructions. Re-assembled and axle controls checked and found tight on axle. The ball ends were reset to .010", these were found to vary up to .050". No appreciable difference on re-testing. The jagger disappeared immediately the drums attained a fairly high temperature. Front hubs dismantled again and swivel sections roughed up. The leading edge of main sections were also chamfered off .003" to nil for .75". Repeat test shewed very little improvement. This car then had to be delivered to customer. 15.2.34. 15.2.34. B.69.A.E. - The same procedure exactly was carried out on this car, the initial test showed duration slightly longer and intensity greater than B.15.A.E. The swivel sections were then removed entirely from the wrapping shoes. The result on test was as reported by Mr. L. Evans. It was also noticed that the time taken for the jagger to disappear was twice as long than with the wrapping shoes complete. The brake drums were then allowed to cool down without watering and on repeat test 50% of the jagger was still apparent. The front hubs on both cars were not sealed on completion, no material being available. Hs{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair}/G.Ratcliffe. | ||
