Dear Rothes,

Many thanks for your letter of the 21st March.

When we try out the small wheels on the Bentley we shall run the 4-ply tyres because if we cannot save weight our interest in these wheels is considerably reduced.

We should like to know how much the effective life of the tyre is reduced by running 4-ply tyres, i.e., if the case does not burst, is the effective depth of tread much less than the 6-ply tyre ?

With regard to the wheel, we are experimenting with light alloy rims with a view to reducing the weight of these.

Yours sincerely,
