FOR DEPOT SHEET.

Ph.II Controllable Shock Dampers.

We are giving you the following information, so that our Depots may know how to deal with our Controllable Damper system.

CONTROL SYSTEM.

The control unit, F.65507, is attached to the gearbox, and consists of an oil reservoir filled with shock damper compressor oil (Castrol P.), a plunger pump, a governor regulating the pressure which is built up by the pump, and a variable loaded valve operated by a lever outside the casing which superimposes various amounts of oil pressure on top of the normal governor range. The lever outside the control unit casing is connected to the lever on the top of the steering column which previously operated the strength of the carburetter mixture.

From the control unit there is only one 1/4" diameter pipe which goes to a 4-way junction piece in the off side of the frame. 2 pipes from this junction piece go to the front and rear off side dampers and the fourth pipe goes across the chassis to a similar junction piece which feeds the near side dampers. In the near side junction piece there is a blank, which can be removed so that a pressure gauge can be introduced into the system for testing the various oil pressures.

TESTING THE CONTROL SYSTEM.

A 1/4" diameter pipe connected to an oil gauge reading up to 40 lbs. pressure (suggest gauge from 25 HP. instrument patch) can be fixed into the near side junction piece, when the blank has been removed, by the standard union and olive F.65053 and F.65005. Both rear wheels must now be jacked well clear of the ground, the chassis being located by scotches against the front wheels.
