20 HP. SECOND MOTION SHAFTS.
----------------------------

Will you kindly note that as Hs.{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} is having some trouble with the second and first speeds working out, even with the modified scheme which Mr.Stent tested out and considered satisfactory, it is essential that we should not undercut the splines on the second motion shaft as arranged in the scheme, to overcome the trouble.

The second motion shaft should be cut with the splines straight through, as in the original case.

If undercutting is necessary, it can always be done at the finish, whereas if the shaft is undercut it will be scrapped if a new scheme is adopted.

The piece number to work to for the second motion shaft should be G.51549, and not G.52067.

We will not alter our part lists at the moment as other modifications will apparently be required in the first and second speed gears, and such modifications will have to be submitted to Wor{Arthur Wormald - General Works Manager} and CJ.
