X.3485 - "GOSHAWK" BATTERY IGNITION - B TYPE COILS X4079

You may remember that when we were considering the aero battery ignition we made up a few B type coils, with the coarser primary winding of 300 turns. We have two of these coils, one of which has been handed to Mr. Platford and the other of which we are experimenting with ourselves in connection with the Goshawk ignition, but owing to the necessity for the Goshawk ignition covering a greater range of speed, we think that there is a probability that this primary winding would be more generally suitable for the Goshawk ignition.

We shall therefore be glad if you will give instructions for three more of the B type coils to be made, complete in cases, for experimental work on the Goshawk ignition.

For your convenience we attach copies of the instructions issued by us and by Mr. Ormerod at the time the B coils were made.

The secondary winding will remain standard unless the larger number of turns can readily be secured.
