-2- 40/50HP. Phantom (Complaints.) Nature of Complaint. | No. of Cars. | Remarks. --- | --- | --- Engine overoiling. | W. 7. N. 17. P. 6. 30. | This complaint is confined to the earlier models and we expect it to die out. Fitting Brico Rings cure a large percentage. If this is not satisfactory the most effective cure is grinding the Cylinder bores and fitting new Pistons. Overoiling seems to start easily with an oval worn cylinder bore, and will come up after decarbonising when the carbon seal is removed. Noisy Tappets. | W. 16. N. 23. P. 9. 48. | We have a new design but anticipate many complaints with the present design. The chief causes of trouble are as follows: Wear taking place when rocker oil holes have been plugged to prevent cylinder overoiling. Wear taking place in the Pins for Rollers. Error in the machining of the Tappet Guides. Clutch Jaggers. | W. 10. N. 16. P. -- 26. | We inject a mixture of oil and paraffin through one of the holes in the periphery of the Flywheel. Sticking Throttles. | W. 13. N. 23. P. 10. 46. | A new design has been made which we hope will overcome this trouble. It has been proposed to change the old type on all cars so fitted. Water Pump failures. | W. 9. N. 15. P. 3. 27. | Oil grooves have been introduced in the latest design to try and overcome this trouble. We have not had sufficient experience to know whether this is a definite cure. | ||
