Wraith Gearbox.

We have been asked for suggestions to reduce the cost of this gearbox. We think the greatest advantage can be got from abolishing grinding of the gears. Not only does this do away with the cost of grinding, but it also considerably simplifies the manufacture of other components.

No gearboxes in the States now have ground gears, the finishing process being lapping that is carried out by a cast-iron pot lap.

We should like to try a 20/25 box finished in this manner to compare the noise of operation with the existing standard of silence. We should then be in a position to recommend or not unground gears for Wraith.
