Inspection report for a faulty dashboard gauge on car No. 128WJ, caused by accidental damage during other work.

Messrs.Rolls-Royce,Ltd., Date 20.1.30. Page 3 Upon an urgent message from your Lilliehall depot, we attended on Monday last, to inspect car No. 128WJ from Car Mart at Messrs.Mulliners of Chiswick. Upon examination it was found that a support stay for the dashboard was very close to the instrument on the near side. The connector for the pressure balance line had been lowered in the clip on casting, to make nut accessible on the under side of stay. The capillary tube coil from bottom of glass tube had obviously been in the way of the spanner, and had been forced downward on the dash side of adjusting tube to clear. The strain on the brass cup in rubber ring, caused by forcing the capillary tube, had broken the cement joint, and the liquid had leaked away. Upon filling up, the residue of the liquid had naturally been insufficient, and the gauge was either blown or showed short reading. The dash unit was brought back here, and to facilitate matters so that the car could be re-delivered immediately, we supplied an exchange instrument from stock. A Rolls-Royce representative from Lilliehall, Mr.Mill, was present during the rectification of the gauge, and the matter was taken up with the Lilliehall depot, whom we asked for a replacement order for the repair to be put through, as this instance was admittedly a case of accidental damage, but it | ||
