e.{Mr Elliott - Chief Engineer} Lr{Mr Ellor}/RVM. 8. c. Rm{William Robotham - Chief Engineer}/TS. Lr{Mr Ellor}/GM.5/WI. 27th. October 1939. Messrs.Shell Mex and B.P.Ltd. (Aviation Department). P.O.Box.148. Shell Mex House, Victoria Embankment, London.W.C.2. Dear Sirs, 110 Octane fuel. We understand that you were recently enquiring about our ideas on fuels of over 100 octane rating. So far we have had no experience on normal types of fuel of greater than 100 octane value, but some months ago the writer discussed a proposed 110 octane fuel with your Messrs.Bradford and Thompson. It was then previsionally arranged that you should make up and send us about 50 gallons of this fuel for preliminary single cylinder tests. As regards the specification of this fuel we leave that/you to decide. /to We would, however, suggest that you bear the following points in mind:- 1. The fuel should be commercially possible in reasonable quantities. 2. It should not contain any constituents of the alchhol type which give greater power than normal fuels due to the temperature lowering effect of the alcohol. | ||
