RE P & R BATTERY EX CHASSIS 40-LK {L. King} -W. WILSON Your D {John DeLooze - Company Secretary} /BP4/CW18.1.26. It appears clear from the P & R report that this battery has failed by loss of capacity due to overcharging. The chassis is a Silver Ghost(1907 40/50 historic RAC 15,000 miles trial) with a Lucas generator, and it is quite possibly the case that it has been used for touring a good deal, and that the owner has not taken care to switch off the charge in the manner suggested in the Instruction Book. We are surprised at the P & R report in that it appears somewhat self-deprecatory, and does not agree with our impression of their attitude in the matter, e.g. that they have been able to make their positive plates so well that they last as long as the negatives. We have no reason to doubt the facts of the report as to the positive plates being worn out, and at the same time we do not think we can do else then advise the customer that his only course is to agree to the charge which they make. He should remember that batteries do not come under our guarantee in any shape or form, so that anything we do for him can only be in the nature of an act of grace. We might tactfully suggest to him that we know that it is extremely unlikely for these batteries now to contain original faults, and that provided they are properly Contd. | ||
