Mr. Nadin informed the Committee that Mr. Johnson had reported that the reply given with reference to Mrs. Nicholls' car at the 71st meeting was not satisfactory. Mr. Johnson said that the design should provide that the part be safe even if neglected.
The Committee have considered this matter further and are of the opinion that the same accident might occur to any of our cars on the road, under similar conditions of neglect. It is also possible that this might be the cause of a serious accident.
It should be noted, however, that this is the first accident which has occurred with our steering gears through failure of this part in about 900 cars.
Mr. Nadin informed the Committee that Mr. Spinney had been instructed to get out a new design of joint for later cars.
