W./T.(C). Mr. Ser Mr. Hoy C. Rm.{William Robotham - Chief Engineer} Mr. Hiv 600 25/30 HP. CHASSIS BODIES. Referring to C.1/AE.11.8.38. and dealing particularly with the Close Coupled four-light Saloon, with the division, which has been produced by Park Ward to Sales instructions, but which has the original lack of a box member as a foundation for the body, we do not see at the moment that any advantage would be gained by transferring this particular body to the Experimental Department, as the existing R.M. body has precisely similar construction and will serve to demonstrate whether the base of the body is adequate or otherwise, which is the point at issue. What we feel is essential at the moment is the necessity to clear an all-steel type of body for production. This can be done by following the general Park Ward scheme, the body would be ordered for a trials car, and the Experiment Department would O.K. it for noise insulation before it is put into service. This is possible in view of the fact that the wood and aluminium bodies on our present frames have proved entirely satisfactory from a durability point of view, and it is therefore unnecessary to reconsider an all-steel body from Park Ward's scheme from the point of view of durability.
