X.5792. SLEEVLESS TYPE R.C.2. MAGNETO FOR 20 HP.

Further to our EFC2/AD1.10.29, one of these magnetos No.120263 is giving satisfactory performance on experimental chassis 12-C4, having run up to the present 2,440 miles, firing the engine. A second one of these No.120264 as previously reported, had to be returned to the Watford Magneto Co. for a fault and is now received back again but not yet tested. The third magneto No.120265 has passed preliminary test satisfactorily and is now awaiting an opportunity of running on an experimental 20 HP. chassis.
We are informed however, that because all our 20 HP. cars are fitted with special high compression engines it is not convenient, at the moment, to fit other magnetos of this type. and run on magneto, in order to test the magneto over a protracted mileage. This arises from the fact that the magneto ignition has not sufficient range for maximum power at full advance and at the same time for the avoidance of detonations on low speed at retard.
NB. The magneto range in engine degrees is 40, whereas the total battery ignition range is 70°, 60° B.D.P. to 10° A.D.P.
Owing to the considerable saving that would be brought about by early standardisation of these R.C.2. magnetos we are, with others, anxious to effect such
