LONDON. N.W.1.

25th October, 1937.

Dear Hall,

With reference to your enquiry as to whether we have an experimental unit which you can use in a boat, the following is the situation:-

We have an engine unit which is built up of non-standard parts. The main point about this unit is that there are no replacements for the cylinder block in the crankcase, because they were never put into production; the bearings, however, are of standard dimensions, likewise the clutch.

In view of the fact that non-standard parts are fitted to the engine, we obviously cannot guarantee it, nor could we guarantee to supply spares other than bearings.

If you agree to accept the engine under these conditions, and in view of the disabilities attached to it we are willing to let you have it for £100.

The equivalent running that the engine has done is about 5,000 miles, mostly round about London.

If you want the engine under these conditions, we will send you the necessary drawings for the rear end for installation purposes as you request.

We note that you are proposing to establish a type of boat with this engine, but as we pointed out you will appreciate that at the present moment we have more than we can do to make our cars satisfactory, and, therefore, cannot hope to take an interest in the Marine business.

Yours sincerely,
