RUDGE-WHITWORTH LTD GLH/MH.{M. Huckerby} TELEPHONE 4001 TELEGRAMS RUDGE COVENTRY RUDGE WORKS COVENTRY Messrs. Rolls-Royce Ltd., DERBY. 30th. January 1936. Dear Mr. Robotham, I remember that over the luncheon table in Derby some time ago you mentioned the chromium plating of cylinder bores. Our initial experiments several years ago were not very encouraging, and were not persevered with, but I have heard of some developments recently. For example I believe that Listers are plating Diesel bores, and I shall be obliged if you could tell me whether there is much advantage in such a process, either as regards wear or reduction of friction, and, if so, whether it is suitable for air cooled cylinders, or only water cooled. I think I remember you saying that plating was not carried out at your Works, and I shall be interested to know whether I could get a sample done if it shows any promise. Cont'd.....
