335C. 7 Rudge-Whitworth, Ltd. Sheet No. 2. Continued Letter to Messrs. Rolls-Royce Ltd., Derby. You will, perhaps, be interested to know that we have made one or two tests of sodium cooled valves, but the increase in power obtainable is hardly noticeable. I think this may be due to the fact that the stems are of larger diameter, and radius under the head is bigger, resulting in reduced effective opening. I am altering the radius under the head, and trying an increased lift. The seats, of course, after long periods of full throttle are definitely better than those of the uncooled valve. Yours faithfully, For RUDGE-WHITWORTH LIMITED. G R Hack Chief of Tech. Dept. | ||
