R.R. 235A (100 T) (S.H. 798, 10-12-20) G 2947 ORIGINAL. To R.{Sir Henry Royce} from EFC. c. E.{Mr Elliott - Chief Engineer} c. Cl. c. Ds. EFC2/T6.10.21. X.4215 - BLERIOT PHI CUTOUTS. Of the two original samples, one you have for your lighting set at W W. and the second you have on chassis 6-EX. Two of the next batch of six samples received, none of which were equal in quality and finish to the original two, and all which were variable in operation and did not at first operate in accordance with our specification, were adjusted by us to operate in accordance therewith. One of these was put on, and is still on, 2-EX and is operating satisfactorily; the second has been returned from EP{G. Eric Platford - Chief Quality Engineer} with a report that it has run a large number of miles satisfactorily, the only objection he finds to it being the small one of a slight click in operation. Of six further samples received, equal in quality and finish to the original two cutouts, all vibrated at cutting in point at maker's setting, apparently because the makers, in attempting to adjust these to our specification, have overdone the adjustment. We, however, have demonstrated to our own satisfaction that adjustment can be made to these so that they operate consistently very nearly in accordance with our specification, without vibrating at the cutting-in point. Four of these have been so adjusted by us, one of which has been placed on chassis 5-EX and is operating Contd. | ||
