FABROIL TIMING GEARS.

Replying to Sft{Mr Swift}/AEM.1/EMG.28.10.36.

I think having taken the trouble to fit these timing gears to ten 3 1/2 Litre Bentley chassis we should make a point of examining some of these gears before we decide whether they are completely satisfactory for production. It should not be difficult to arrange for them to go into a Depot for a day and we could depute GWH.{George W. Hancock - Head Chateauroux} to pass an opinion as to the freedom from backlash, etc. If you will give us the chassis numbers concerned we will follow the matter up.

With regard to the modified cam balancing device which is now on production and which prevents the fitting of these gears; whilst we agree that this is a better job than the one it superseded we have never felt that the original scheme had any serious defect. The isolated cases of failure which have occurred we attribute to incorrect fitting. There should, however, be sufficient cars on the road to confirm this factor or otherwise and we will endeavour to get the necessary information to convince E.{Mr Elliott - Chief Engineer} that the old cam balancer has given satisfactory results.
