X 1085 To Sg.{Arthur F. Sidgreaves - MD} From Hs.{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} c. to Wor.{Arthur Wormald - General Works Manager} Hs.{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair}7/MJ.7.9.31. L.H. P.2 CARS FOR AMERICA. Replying to Sg.{Arthur F. Sidgreaves - MD}5/D20.7.31. We find that all the left-hand cars which have been despatched to America have had shutters in the bonnet. They have had our four standard sliding shutters. It was at one time agreed that cars for U.S.A. should not have shutters but actually they have never been deleted. In a way this is fortunate, as it does help to overcome some of the overheating troubles we should expect from P.2 cars in U.S.A. We have had no comment from Springfield as regards shutters and therefore we expect that as they have accepted the sliding shutters they would be very pleased to have the flip-flap type instead.
