Speedometer people originally proposed to paint the tip of the needle red, but Hs {Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} , and a number of us at the Works rather thought that the red color was a mistake - it was not easily visible at night and the use of red has been more in conjunction with the indication of a danger zone. We are of the opinion that if the tip of the needle were enamelled white it would be sufficiently distinctive as compared with the nickel silver figuring on the face, to enable one to locate the needle of the pointer without difficulty, whilst in addition it would be more readily seen at night and indistinct light.
