For the attention of Mr. Skinner.

Dear Mr. Skinner,

We thank you for your letter of the 27th.inst., and also for Mr. Morris's letter of the 24th.

We had a very interesting discussion with Mr. Morris when he came over here, and we believe that he appreciated what we wanted. We certainly consider that the slow running stream which concentrates the air flow round the main jet by means of a passage drilled in the piston sounds very promising, and we feel convinced that it is worth while trying to cut down the leakage factor to improve this feature.

We are sure you will agree that it would be satisfactory to know what causes this noise and whether it can be eliminated at its source rather than to add a silencer. Therefore, we should be interested to know whether the hiss could be reduced or overcome without spoiling the functioning of the carburetter.

Our own experience has been to improve the silence of the carburetter by radiusing the trailing edge of the throttle in one instance, though we have had various other sources of noise.

With regard to the alteration of the main mixture strength without effecting the slow running, it would

Cont'd....
