-2- HS {Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} /Std.2/KW.19.11.35. When cold load acting โ = spring - (V.P x M.A.) - Bellows load = 10 - 0 - 12 = -2 lbs. When hot load acting โ (V.P. x M.A.) - (spring + rate 1¼") + Bellows load = 6 x 5.7 - (10 + 2) + 0 = 22.2 lbs. from which it will be seen that the bellows design as it stands is incorrect. We have, however, worked out a suitable size of bellows and attach the calculations for your examination. The rating figure which we have used is the same as that quoted by you in your design: we are rather surprised at its being so high. Assuming you agree with our figures, nothing further can be done in the matter until we have completed our parts for the scheme, so that we can measure the shutter friction. I should also like to receive the calculations which you promised me, giving the minimum size of thermostat to operate the shutters, using a small dia. bellows, acting direct, without a bell-crank lever - other conditions as specified on your drawing B.G.A.3201. I should like to take this opportunity of thanking you for the attention shown me while I was at your Works. I was extremely interested in our discussion with Capt. Payne, and should very much like to receive the radiator curves etc. which he promised to send me. Awaiting your reply with interest. Yours faithfully, FOR ROLLS-ROYCE LIMITED. | ||
