Rm{William Robotham - Chief Engineer}/Wym.{G. Harold Whyman - Experimental Manager}4/ET.19.4.41. Chassis 8.B.V. Gearbox B.III No.1. (6,484 miles) 2nd. Motion Shaft GB.4985. 2nd. speed teeth have broken off, but this is due to layshaft bearing failure - Remedy - Timken Bearings. Chassis 1.B.50 (Lorry) Gearboxes 1.B.V. (26,055 Miles ) and B.III No.3 (16,519 miles) 1st. speed teeth are straight, 8 D.P. no correction, S/ZNX, in both boxes. One 1st. speed pinion has broken off its teeth at 26,055 miles. (The photograph suggests these gears have not always run in full mesh.) Remedy 7.2 or 8 D.P. teeth. The other 1st. pinion shows pitch line pitting and a crack is suspected. Pitting must be expected on lorry work. Chassis 4.B.50. Gearbox E.2.B.1. (300 miles) 1st. Speed driven Gear GB.5126. 1st. speed teeth are helical 9 D.P. .035 correction S/ZNX. 2nd. speed dogs are not strengthened. One 1st. speed wheel tooth broken off and 2nd. speed dogs reported to be failing. This 1st. speed failure at 300 miles on this car is disturbing, but an identical piece has run 11,820 miles on 30.G.VII. without failure. Remedy - 7.2 or 8 D.P. teeth but see remarks below on degree of correction. The manner in which 2nd. speed dogs are failing is not Cont'd.{John DeLooze - Company Secretary} | ||
