re Gearbox Failures shewn on Photographs Rm{William Robotham - Chief Engineer}/Wym.{G. Harold Whyman - Experimental Manager}4/ET.19.1.41.

We have just been told that the headings on these photographs are not correct and consequently some parts of our report are invalid.

It is not a first speed wheel which has failed at 300 miles on 4.B.50. but second speed dogs. It is not second speed dogs that have failed at 11,820 miles on 30.G.VII. but a first speed wheel tooth.

This rather modifies our impressions; first speed teeth are not failing quite so quickly as the titles on the photographs suggest, and the second speed dogs we have designed but which are not being tested now appear very necessary.

The piece number of the 1st. speed wheel off 1.B.V. gearbox is GB.4850 not GB.4580 as quoted on the photograph.
