CONTINUATION NO. 2.

Messrs. Rolls-Royce Limited.

obtained from the air bottles if the pump is not entirely in correct adjustment, and we rather like to cater for these conditions if possible. If the two sides of the pump are working alternatively, there is no need for an air bottle at all, but it is possible for the two sides to get in step and that is where the air bottle assists. We think therefore, it might be worth while repeating one of your tests at about 8 volts with and without air bottles, having previously weakened the contact blade on one side of the pump to throw it out of adjustment. If under these conditions the air bottle shows no advantage, they may as well be disregarded.
[Handwritten note below disregarded]: discarded

[Handwritten note in left margin]: Have asked them to supply a pump. Rm{William Robotham - Chief Engineer}

In any case, whether air bottles are used or not, it does not affect the general design of the pump, and we should like to know whether you wish us to proceed to make up some more pumps with a reduced loading. The effect of this will of course be in no respect different from that which you have obtained already on just over 8 volts. Kindly therefore give us your instructions.

Yours faithfully,
For THE S.U. COMPANY.
