X87836. c. Roy.{Sir Henry Royce} c. BY.{R.W. Bailey - Chief Engineer} c. Mailing. EFC5/T. Extract 5th July, 1928. (X44175) Messrs. Peto & Radford, 50, Grosvenor Gardens, LONDON, S.W.1. Dear Sirs, P & R.{Sir Henry Royce} Batteries for 40/50. H.P. R.R. CARS. We are writing to you on two distinct matters, though both in connection with the above batteries :- Vents & Vent Plugs. You may remember that we were previously concerned about the screw threads of the vent holes, having observed some poor cases of this on customers' chassis in our Repair Dept. The references of the correspondence which passed between us are :- EFC1/T. of 15.10.26, M/S. of 18.10.26, EFC1/T. of 19.10.26, and M/S of 9.11.26. In the second one referred to, you virtually assured us that this complaint would not again occur. Recently however, I have received a report (JC.110) from my assistant which runs as follows:- "I & R.{Sir Henry Royce} Vents on 40/50 HP. Batteries. "I wish to call your attention to the fact "that the vent plugs in the 40/50 HP. batteries "are a very slack fit and in a few cases they "have even stripped the threads so that the plug "will not grip, this has happened in quite new "batteries. "It is going to be very inconvenient if "customers have this trouble, because the plugs "will jump out and then acid will splash over. "I think this is a point which should be "brought before Messrs. P & R.{Sir Henry Royce} for them to rectify." The "quite new batteries" referred to include one or two of the six-volt units which you have recently supplied to us. We should be glad to have your remarks. | ||
