To DA.{Bernard Day - Chassis Design} from Hs{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair}/Rm.{William Robotham - Chief Engineer} Xer600 Hs{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair}/Rn{Mr Robinson}8/LG17.10.27. SPARE WHEEL CARRIER. X8460 We have no doubt that you have carefully considered all the ways and means of carrying the spare wheel in the tail of the car. We are of the opinion that as soon as people have got used to the idea of a tail, it will become almost universal on fast cars and it will then be possible to increase the size sufficiently to incorporate two spare wheels. We send you a sketch of how this can be done on the Phantom although obviously some modification to the rear of the frame would be necessary if this additional weight is to be supported satisfactorily. It will be observed that the main troubles are overcome if the rear petrol tank is re-designed. We believe the tail could be made to have the appearance of lightness by means of panelling.
