I am returning to you a petrol filter taken out of the tank on the Works Trials Car, 1.LW. There was a failure of the petrol supply on this car, and it was traced as due to the restriction through this filter, and when a new filter was fixed the petrol supply was quite in order. The filter was cleaned in the ordinary way by washing in petrol etc. but this did not overcome the trouble, and on examination, it would appear that the filter is choked by some sediment or corrosive matter formed in the gauze itself. It is of the standard mono-metal type, the same as we are now using on standard cars, and we do not wish to feel we are turning out cars which may give similar trouble while in customers' hands. I feel we should at least be in a position to advise customers and our Depots if such trouble should occur how same can be rectified. Is it possible that HL. can investigate this filter and give us a report as to how the sediment or corrosive matter can be removed. On the contrary, we consider that some different type of filter metal should be used. We would point out that on this car we have used all types of petrol and benzole, but only such fuel as can be normally obtained by customers. EP.{G. Eric Platford - Chief Quality Engineer} | ||
