| Nature of Complaint. | No. of Cars. | Last Qtr's. Total. | Remarks. |
|---|---|---|---|
| Clutch Jaggers and Slipping. | W. 10. N. 19. P. 1. --- 30. | 35. | A 50% mixture of oil and paraffin will overcome the jaggers, but if overdone will cause slipping. Phantom clutches appear to require a lot of attention to keep them in a really nice condition. |
| Coil Failures. | W. 5. N. 21. P. 1. --- 27. | 31. | Almost all these failures are due to the burning of the primary winding, which was replaced on series "F2" - Phantom, and "M" - 20 HP., by the present thicker primary. All the failures recorded are prior to these series, and the later type coil is always used for replacements. By.{R.W. Bailey - Chief Engineer} is watching the case of coil failures, and is instructing further experimental work. |
| Exhaust Cut-Out Sticks. | W. 3. N. 14. P. -. --- 17. | 16. | New design standardised. This only occurs on the positive control type, when the operating rod is set incorrectly. We should like to hear from N. what they find to be the cause for this complaint. |
| Exhaust Butterfly Choke Squeaking. | W. 3. N. 32. P. -. --- 35. | 38. | By.{R.W. Bailey - Chief Engineer} is instructing a number of spindles to be produced in Nitralloy, and bushes of chilled cast phospher bronze. Also, a further experiment with Nitralloy spindles used in the rolled mica bush. |
