re Chassis 189 GY - Franckeiss 32
--------------
RECEIVED

Referring, please, to H10/RK.5.4.32, I am sending you Derby's report on this starter motor, as requested therein.

I would observe that Mr. Franckeiss does not complain of four breakdowns, as mentioned in this memo. He has actually had three. He only says that he does not want to experience a fourth.

A copy of Derby's report is attached.

I am afraid that we shall again reach a deadlock over it, as Br.{T. E. Bellringer - Repair Manager} states that all these points were definitely dealt with by our electrican. The latter says he established without doubt that trouble only existed inside the starter motor itself. Points such as "W" mention are checked by him on every job which we handle.

The starter motor under examination would not turn the engine, whereas the service one which he took down would do so. This, he claims establishes that the fault could not be outside, but must be inside. He suggests that while the original motor may run on the Bench, it will not work when it is given the job of turning an engine.

As you will see, I have addressed a copy of this report to "W", and presume that they will in due course let us know what further steps they are going to take about the matter.

With regard to the question they ask in paragraph (b), the voltage was low on the old motor, but was all right on the service one which our man fitted.

A.{Mr Adams} SB{Mr Bull/Mr Bannister}
