Wor.{Arthur Wormald - General Works Manager} HY.{Tom Haldenby - Plant Engineer} VALVE SPRINGS. X.3616 X.290 X.2993 X.5060 X.3822 As far as I can I want to kick up hell, so that we may get some benefit immediately from the improvements in design and materials that we have made during the past 6 months. FIRST, stop the production for stock of all present springs which are doubtful : 20 HP. 40/50 RR.F.engine. Condor engine. Test night and day until we have decided whether those coiled from tempered wire, or those made from soft wire with the best heat treatment, are the better. I should favour tempered wire, low maximum stress, and so called open ends, providing these shew best in tests. Scrap ruthlessly all doubtful materials, stock and design, and let us get going before we hopelessly spoil our reputation. Ask Mr. Wormald to see that this is in forcible adoption. We seem to have many moves, and should be able to adopt say the best three immediately. R.{Sir Henry Royce} | ||
