X.3725 RECEIVED 10 MAR 1921 EP.{G. Eric Platford - Chief Quality Engineer} Hs.{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} Ds. BY12/H.{Arthur M. Hanbury - Head Complaints} 10. 3. 21. ------------------- RE DETACHABLE RIMS FOR STRAIGHT SIDED TYRES, (GOODYEAR). ----------------------------------------------------- With reference to your memo EP{G. Eric Platford - Chief Quality Engineer}22/F.{Mr Friese} 8.3.21. I agree that the gap of the detachable rim is too excessive, and have therefore instructed Wd.{Mr Wood/Mr Whitehead} to take the matter up with the Dunlop Company. I would point out that when I visited the Dunlop Company during the time they were producing their experimental set of this type of wheel, I pointed out to Colonel Mathew that the gap of the detachable flange should not be more than .200", and he agreed with me on this point. Regarding the other point you raised, viz, the rims appeared to be heavy and of thick material, I had three wheels weighed, and the weights of the wheels were as follows:- 43 1/2 lbs. 44 lbs. 43 1/2 lbs. The weight of the Dunlop wheel fitted with a loose flange made by the Goodyear Company, is 43 1/2 lbs, so in this case I consider the wheels we are receiving from the Dunlop Company at the present time are quite O.K.
