By from EP.{G. Eric Platford - Chief Quality Engineer} c. to HS.{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} c. to E.{Mr Elliott - Chief Engineer} c. to Der. EP{G. Eric Platford - Chief Quality Engineer}22/PS.3.21. X3725 RE. GOODYEAR DETACHABLE RIMS FOR STRAIGHT SIDED TYRES. With reference to the wheels we are now receiving, which we understand are built up by Messrs. Dunlop with Goodyear detachable rims for straight sided tyres manufactured by them, these wheels and rims appear to be quite satisfactory in so far as the groove into which the detachable rim fits appears quite sound and free from flaws or cracks, which was not the case on the previous Goodyear made rims. The rims, however, appear to be much heavier and of thick material. We also feel that the gap of the detachable rim is much too excessive and even more so than the previous Goodyear made rims. We have felt in the past that this gap is likely to be detrimental to the tyres owing to its direct contact with the water etc., The tyre beading is exposed and appears to be much more so on these rims than on the previous batch of Goodyear made rims which were condemned. We are now arranging to despatch American cars fitted with these rims where ordered. If any further inspection or alteration is required, it should be done as soon as ever possible, as we cannot hold up deliveries. MAR 8 1921 RECEIVED EP.{G.
