We have now tested the three jacks which were recently sent to us by the Dunlop Co. and report herewith. (1) The general finish of the jack is by no means as good as the sample we let them have and we should like them to improve upon this. (2) The incorporating of the thrust race is a definite improvement, making the jack much easier in operation. (3) The fishtail fitting is by far better for accessibility and quickness in operation than the present type of fitting, the handle of which can only be put on or taken off in certain positions, whereas the fishtail is adaptable in all positions, and also this type of jack is of less cost. (4) The fore and aft toed base plate is much better and we suggest that the bottom of the plate be cross sectioned or knurled in order to give a better grip. (5) The finish of the jack handle is satisfactory but in the case of the fishtail the metal seems to be rather soft, as after the testing we find it is burred and marked badly and it is possible that after some time in service it may wear to such an extent that it would be useless. Perhaps the makers can toughen the fishtail a little more. The wooden cross pieces are satisfactory excepting for the finish which is not up to our standard. Will you please ask the Dunlop Co. to supply as soon as possible one jack and handle as follows:- Fitted with thrust race and fishtail fitting and finished to our standard. Fishtail handle with fishtail toughened and all nickel finish. 15" wooden cross piece finished to our standard. Hs {Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} /Bwg. {J. C. Bowring} | ||
