Generally speaking the dampers are free from leaks at the glands.

It will be observed that there were only 14 cases of oil leaks reported in the last six months so that this trouble is hardly in the same category as that of noise.

SUMMARY.

The above observations appear formidable. Actually as is always the case, a considerable proportion of our complaints are from troubles that have only come to light in customers hands. In such cases the corrective is in production but a quantity of cars are about that must inevitably give trouble.

Our greatest concern is that under modern road conditions round London, an almost immeasurable amount of wear in links will cause an audible knock in certain cars and as apparently P.II's are/susceptible as any to this trouble.
It is quite certain that these knocks are justifiable complaints and that in the majority of cases they can be cured by fitting new links. We suggest that the direction which further design work should take should be :-

(a) Progressively increase the link bearing area.
(b) Ensure that the top pin of the Phantom 11 front damper always runs in oil.
(c) Alter the Bijur connection for the rear dampers.
(d) Provide a filter for the air vent.

Experimentally we are making tests to determine how much the axle rebound can be restrained with a view to using
