87960. Expl. Dept. Hs.{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair}5/MJ. 30th. June 1932. Kaye Don Esq., Dorland House, 14, Regent Street, LONDON.S.W.1. Dear Mr. Kaye Don, We have returned your car to Mulliners this afternoon. The work we have carried out on the car since it came here is :- (1) Fitted new type ribbed brake drums. (2) Shimmy shackle on the front springs to reduce shocks. (3) Overhauled clutch, which was slipping because of oil. (4) Balanced front wheels, which were badly out of balance. (5) Decarbonised engines. We only had an opportunity for a short road test before the car had to leave. The steering was definitely better than when the car came in because one of the faults as we received it was that the front wheels were badly out of balance. We are not entirely satisfied with the steering but we should like to have your views after you have run the car a short time As regards the braking, as the brakes had all been relined it is difficult to judge until the car has been run for some distance. On our standard cars the proportion of braking is 40% front and 60% rear. Actually we should get much better braking effect by reversing these proportions. For the average driver, however, we hesitate to do this, but at some future date, if you would prefer it, we could arrange to do this on your car. | ||
