| X1487 Hs {Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} /Hm. {Capt. W. Hallam - Head Repairs} 11/AD. October 4th, 1932. Mr. Skinner, The S.U. Company, East Works, Bordesley Green Rd. Adderley Park, Birmingham. Dear Mr. Skinner, Thank you very much for your letter of the 3rd inst. and for the picture of the carburetter you are making for me. The difficulty, as usual, will be in getting the air silencer on the end of the carburetter owing to the lack of distance between the induction ports and the bonnet. We only have 7" available and the distance shown on your drawing of the 1 5/8 carburetters from the face of the flange to the face of the air intake is 5 3/4" leaving only 1 1/4" for the attachment. However, I presume we cannot shorten these carburetters any more and we shall therefore have to make the best job we can and I am afraid it is going to be difficult. I thought I remembered some pear-shaped intakes fitted to Morrises which were, of course, very flat. They must have taken a certain amount of developing and I wonder if you have any sketches of them. I am most anxious to get these carburetters quiet as the roar is the one feature which is instantly criticised by everybody. Very many thanks for sending the fuels for destroying the fabric but these have not yet come to hand. Yours sincerely, | ||
