VALVE STEEL - FIRTH'S CHROME-NICKEL-TUNGSTEN. I am very pleased to hear of promising new valve steel. It sounds like Staybrite plus tungsten (roughly). Probably they have name or number. I certainly think we should make an extended trial if it promises well otherwise - i.e. good and reliable for forgings, and not too plastic, as I under- stand austenitic steels are liable to be.[Strikethrough:occasionally] I fear any brittle steel, as Silchrome appears to be, occasionally may lead to disastrous breakdowns.
