Hallam - Head Repairs} CWB5/GM/9-5-27. 40/50 HP. SPRINGING. Thank you for your By2/H6.5.27. Proposals of this memo are entirely satisfactory to Sales and it is hoped that it will be possible to introduce this revised scheme for springing of continental cars immediately. Actually, however, it is considered advisable to exclude Russia. It is improbable that we shall sell any cars to private owners in Russia for a very long time and as such cars as we have recently supplied have been inspected by them in England it is perhaps best in this case to leave the strength of the springs fitted, open, so that they can be discussed with and approved by these inspectors as suitable to Russian conditions. There only remains now to settle the question of springs in Australia and other countries which we might usefully describe as Colonial springing. These springs will be suitable for all places where there is any considerable extent of unmade roads. I discussed briefly our ideas on this matter with Mr. Clough whilst at Derby, but we should be glad if you would take the opportunity of discussing this question very fully with Pt. who is now at Derby, before he leaves, and if you will then send to us your proposals to meet these conditions. If you see no grave objection, our view is that, springs of about 20% stronger all round would be best to meet these abnormal conditions. Certainly the maximum clearance we can possibly give would seem to be required. CWB OWB. | ||
