AIR MINISTRY, LONDON, W.C.2. 11th July, 1933. FUEL FOR GOSHAWK TYPE TEST. Gentlemen, I am directed to inform you that permission has been granted for Goshawk type test to be run on the proposed new Air Ministry Specification fuel, the essential feature of which is that it has an octane number of 76 to 78 when measured on a C.F.R. test engine at an intake mixture temperature of 260°F.{Mr Friese} 2. In order to clear the engines for the day and night fighter specification F.7/30, an engine representing the supercharged Goshawks being delivered against Contract No.218704/32 will be submitted to type test under fully evaporatively cooled conditions using the above quoted fuel. 3. Similar action will be required to clear the Goshawk VIII type engines being supplied to Messrs. Short Brothers for aircraft to Specification R.24/31.
