R.R.A.160-1 16M-2-1-96 45625 ROLLS-ROYCE OF AMERICA, INC. SPRINGFIELD, MASS. PROPOSED STANDARDIZATION OF CHASSIS PARTS No.42 Alteration No. 4780/A Date November 28, 1924 To Mr. Belnap The following is proposed: PIECE NOS. AFFECTED: 6000, 6020 SECTION NO. NAME OF PARTS: Flywheel and Clutch Engine Coupling Signatures implying agreement with the alteration: NAME: Mr. Olley, INITIALS: OY., DATE: 11/29/24 NAME: Mr. Nadin, INITIALS: T.N., DATE: 12/1/24 NAME: Mr. Bagnall, INITIALS: Bagnall, DATE: 12/2/24 NAME: Mr. Hulley, INITIALS: W.H.H., DATE: 12/2/24 NAME: Mr. Southern, INITIALS: J.Southern, DATE: 11/29/24 NAME: Mr. Caswell, INITIALS: E.W.C., DATE: 11/29/24 NAME: Mr. Ross, INITIALS: A.C.R., DATE: 12/1/24 NAME: Mr. Beaver, INITIALS: H.C.Beaver, DATE: 12/2/24 NAME: Mr. Belnap, INITIALS: L.J.Belnap, DATE: 12/5/24 NAME: Mr. Royce NAME: Mr. Johnson DESCRIPTION of Alteration: In connection with the proposal of Sheet No.40 we desire to adopt the lubrication of the coupling from the clutch trunnion together with a flexible pipe connection to an oiler under the bonnet (see Proposal Sheet No.45) and spring washers under the coupling blocks. PURPOSE of Alteration: (a) Because of the extension of the gearbox for carrying the change lever, it is almost impossible to lubricate the coupling direct, by removing the floor-boards. The lubrication of this part is already neglected because of its inaccessibility. (b) The effect of the spring washers under the blocks, we find to greatly increase the life of the coupling before clatter develops. (See accompanying note.) We propose to put this alteration into regular manufacture on January 15, 1925. unless we hear from Mr. Johnson and Mr. Royce to the contrary. Tested: (See letter) Estimated cost: $2.00 per car (Part of 1101 change) Proposed Chassis at which alteration should start: 1101 Cost of parts scrapped, if any: None Increase in weight, if any: None | ||
