In Major Northey's report he complains that the brakes were not effective and also that oil was running out of the rear hubs. We think that very probably there has been too much oil put in the axle and this has been getting on to the brakes. The oil level in the axle casing is arranged as follows :-

In the bottom of the axle casing there is a large ring nut and screwed into that is another plug - if this plug is removed, any excess oil should drain out. One must not be deceived by the small amount of oil which collects in the stand pipe.

We hear that you are taking the car for a period and we should very much like you to see that the brakes are in a better condition before you start.

The trouble complained of is unusual on the Goshawk, and we are very anxious to find the cause.

We have today despatched to you three spare top leaves for the front springs.
