VISIT TO
TAYLOR BROTHERS LTD.,
MANCHESTER.

on Tuesday June 16th. we visited Taylor Bros. Manchester with the object of ascertaining whether we could get supplies of :-

1. Steel.
2. Barrel forgings.
3. Machines to finish the barrel on the outside.

Taylor Bros. are already forging Bofors barrels.

There appears to be no doubt that they can produce both the steel and the barrels for us, but if we require 80 ton tensile steel they will not be able to do the necessary heat treatment.

Also, they would prefer to make the barrels in Vibrac rather than the nickel chromium molybdenum specification which was put up for the gun which has already been made.

Marriott is of the opinion that a 40 ton steel would be quite as good except that its durability might be less on the liner, but is going into the matter and will let us have his final opinion.

Taylor Bros. equipment is only suitable for rough turning the outside of the barrel but they have some big machines which might finish the piece.

Quantities present no difficulties to them as they are doing 5,000 tons of steel per week.
