-2- (e) It was stated it took between three and four weeks to deliver a chassis from the time it was ordered. (f) It was found very difficult to find a chassis in stock to suit most of customers' orders, there being a great shortage of 'D' type steering. (g) It was agreed that if a chassis is 'robbed' in order to fulfil an urgent order, this chassis must be completed again, i.e. the robbed portions must be replaced. (h) CJ. also agreed that in future we should complete all the chassis that are on test and that expensive alterations to them should not take place. (6) DIFFERENCE IN COST BETWEEN 6 CYLINDER AND 4 CYLINDER. This question was not raised at the conference. (7) HOW FAR SHOULD WE GO IN SUPERINTENDANCE OF THE FITTING OF BODIES TO CHASSIS WHEN BODIES ARE ORDERED SOMEWHERE ELSE? CJ. and EP.{G. Eric Platford - Chief Quality Engineer} will discuss this. (8) SHOULD THE TESTING OF COMPLETE CARS BE UNDER EP.{G. Eric Platford - Chief Quality Engineer} OR SALES? CJ. and EP.{G. Eric Platford - Chief Quality Engineer} will discuss this. (9) WHY HAS THE SYSTEM OF THE VITAL PART OF THE ENGINE BEING SEALED AT DERBY BEFORE DELIVERY TO COACHBUILDERS BEEN DONE AWAY WITH? CJ. and EP.{G. Eric Platford - Chief Quality Engineer} will discuss this. (10) CHASSIS 6.UE. RUDYARD KIPLING. Reference CJ6/D30.8.21 to R.{Sir Henry Royce} and R2/G31.8.21 to CJ. This was chiefly a question of springing. Ref. Minutes of 1/6/20 R.{Sir Henry Royce} wrote to Wor.{Arthur Wormald - General Works Manager} copy to CJ., as follows in his R14/G8.6.20. - " In reading over the memos of your conference I am quite in agreement with Mr.Platford's views that the fitting of rear Shock Dampers to existing cars should be left over until we find that it is necessary to make this alteration to existing cars. I would much rather spend the money in perfecting the springs and springing as soon as we have proved what is the best thing to recommend. I was very pleased to hear that you hoped to get some of the very latest designs for test last week. R.{Sir Henry Royce} " R.{Sir Henry Royce} wrote to CJ. copies to BJ.
