From our Laboratory Fortnightly Report for December 7th, 1918, the following paragraph is given below re Hessbright Bearing:- "Some balls from a Hessbright Bearing from American Planet Wheel, that failed under engine test gave the analysis:-- Carbon 1.2 Manganese .56 Phosphorus .025 Chromium .53 From this analysis it appears that the carbon and manganese are on the high side and the chromium is low according to our specification, and this has tended to make the balls fail, probably owing to excessive cementite.
