X4238 Extract from R7/M30.12.21. X.4219. (11) GOSHAWK CARBURETTER WITH SILENCER. X.4238 X.4228 With reference to Mr. Hives( criticisms that the new Goshawk carburetter with silencer is noisier than the old and that the air valve is obscured I think that we should add slots enabling the movement of the air valve to be seen but I do not think that we should throw away the new design as it is much better than the old in many respects and if worked at, should be less noisy. It is admittedly at the beginning of its best and we do not yet know all there is to know about the new features on it. Has the new air valve been arranged with the same spring pressure at the top of its stroke as the old air valve? If not, this would make the carburetter noisier. R.{Sir Henry Royce} | ||
