GOSHAWK 11. INDUCTION & EXHAUST PIPES. X.4236 X.4227. With reference to the modifications necessary to the standardised form of induction and exhaust pipes to clear the magneto drive, we can see no objection to scheme 422. There will be more difficulty in the machining, a point which was realised when the scheme was put in hand, owing to the inclination of the joining face between the manifolds but with the use of jigs this should not be very troublesome. Section fig. 1 seems to be the better to follow when dealing with the clearance for the cylinder joint nuts, but we would suggest that the b-osses for the upper pair of bolts be cut back as far as possible so as to leave the maximum amount of room for the spanner around the cylinder joint nuts. If it is (involves 2 different lengths of bolts we would say that this is) objected that it is not important as the bolts are made up from screwed rod or very possibly with a little juggling they could still be got the same length.
