Required driving and damping loads for a Bentley clutch spring drive to eliminate overrun rattles.

We have now decided on the driving and damping loads we require to eliminate overrun rattles. The loads should be - Driving 120 lbs.ft/degree. Damping. 30 lbs.ft. Driving springs to Ex.12473 of rating 950 lbs/in. It is the rating that matters. Springs that give the drawing load due to an excessive free length should therefore be rejected.
