CLUTCH SPRING DRIVE - BENTLEY.

We have now decided on the driving and damping loads we require to eliminate overrun rattles.

The loads should be -

Driving 120 lbs.ft/degree.
Damping. 30 lbs.ft.

Driving springs to Ex.12473 of rating 950 lbs/in. It is the rating that matters. Springs that give the drawing load due to an excessive free length should therefore be rejected.

For the damping load we are using the lowest possible rating springs GB.534.X, the length of the bronze distance pieces being .670".
